my local nursery wants three months notice if i withdraw my child, but given that we are looking for a house and don't know where we will be living yet, this is worrying me a bit. do other people have experience of this and what do they do?

Legally, if you pay on a monthly basis, I'm pretty sure that they can only hold you to a months notice. Give the CAB a call...?

if you sign a contract agreeing to 3 months then you pay 3 months. why don't you give notice now and themn look for a childminder who might ahve less stringent terms

will try mum2girls, but do remember signing a document agreeing to three months notice (stupidly) as was worrying about getting my dd into the place. Now i think it is a bit excessive

mud - that's a possibility. do childminders take kids on short-term or do most try to 'lock you in' as well?

I would take children on a short-term basis, or have done occasional days/weeks, and wouldn't normally do a contract for that type of arrangement (some minders do).

In a situation where a parent isn't sure when they would leave (such as moving), I would just ask that parents tell me that they will/might be leaving, and to keep me informed. There would only be a problem if a long-term job came up which I wouldn't want to lose, and then we'd have a bit of negotiation!
