I've heard that after DC are 3 they qualify for 16 free hours of nursery, but I have no idea of how this works. Can you help me?

its normally the first term after there 3 rd birthday that they get 15 -16hrs free i paid for my ds until the term after his 3rd birthday but as his bday was april i had missed the easter term and had to wait for the next term so he was 3 half when i no longer needed to pay

How do you claim it? Can you choose how many hours a day? Can you pick up any nursery?

well we just put our name down at local pre school if you use private nursery then the amoutn of hours will come off bill

pre school you pay and then as soon as term after 3rd birthday comes round we had to sign a piece of paper and we were no longer billed for the sessions the pre school sessions equalled the eaxct amount of free hours so no lap over

my friends son went to private nursery and they just deducted his free hours of the billed hours

if you want local pre school then get your name down as soon as possible if not im not sure its that difficult to get into nursery

If you are looking into a private nursery, to get your free hours, i would look in advance, the 3-5 year rooms do tend to have less of a waiting lists, but at our nursery we tend to tell people they could be on the waiting list for a year, maybe less maybe more.
