My name is Mel and I am leading Project CAMEO (www.project-cameo.co.uk). This project focuses on mums with criminal justice histories, and their children.
I work alongside a charity called the Maslow Foundation, who are working with mums with an upcoming court date, and aim to understand children's needs and views as part of a pre-sentencing court report (this report gives extra details about a person to their sentencing magistrate/judge). Through working with the Maslow Foundation, it became clear that we need to better understand what the time from arrest to receiving a sentence is like for mums, and to ask them what they need during this time.
I am currently interviewing mums about their experiences of the pre-sentencing period (the time from arrest - sentencing). Topics can include
- your experience of the time from arrest to sentence
- your experiences as a mum during arrest to sentence
- your ideas for support services for mums and their children
(a topic guide is available on the website)
If:
- you are over the age of 18
- you had at least one child under the age of 17, who you were responsible for, when you were arrested and awaiting sentence
- your sentence ended less than 10 years ago (including any form of supervision probation/licence)
- you were either in remand or at home when awaiting your sentencing decision
- you live in the UK
- you can have a conversation in English

Here are some key points about what taking part looks like:
- filling out a short screening questionnaire (this lets me know if you are eligible and human [automated bot participants are an issue in any online space] (1-2 minutes)
- If eligible to take part, you will be sent the consent form via e-mail (approx 10 minutes)
- If eligible and consenting, I'll be in touch to arrange your interview, you can ask me questions and change your mind about taking part at any point, even during the interview and beyond.

- Attending an online interview (approximately 1 hour), using Microsoft Teams
