We're posting this survey on behalf of the researcher:

Deadlines to Dinner Time - Finding Your Balance: A Quick Survey for Mums Over 40

Are you a working mum aged 38–55, juggling a demanding career, household chaos, and the endless mental load—only to feel like you’re dropping the ball at home?
You’re not alone. So many of us excel at leading teams, hitting deadlines, and solving problems at work, yet walk through the front door and feel like we’re constantly reacting—snapping at the kids, miscommunicating with our partners, or just feeling guilty for not being “present enough.”

What if you could bring the same clarity, confidence, and leadership to your family life?
I’m exploring how better listening—a skill we use every day at work—can transform the way we connect with our families. Not just hearing, but really listening: the kind that rebuilds trust, reduces conflict, prevents burn-out and helps everyone feel heard.
Why does this matter?

  • Less chaos, more connection: Practical tools to cut through the noise and foster cooperation (yes, even with teens!).
  • Lead at home like you do at work: Use your professional strengths to create a calmer, more respectful dynamic.
  • Ditch the mum guilt: When you trust yourself, your family will too.
I’d love your input! If you’re a start-up entrepreneur, corporate professional or creative freelancer with school-age or teenage kids, please take this 2 minute survey Your experiences will help shape a new approach to communication for busy mums like us. Let’s turn “overwhelmed” into “in control”—one conversation at a time.

Thank you! Your insights are truly appreciated and will help create tools that actually work for busy mums like you.

P.S. Share your biggest “communication fail” at home in the comments—let’s laugh (and learn) together!

Hi there 👋
Thanks for letting me post and introduce myself and my survey here!

Mumsnet didn’t exist when I was in the thick of childrearing - 4DS and 1DG - but if it had, I’d have been on it for sure!

I’m a grandmother of 8, a creative semi-retired life navigator, activist, carer and family ‘chaos coordinator'. As a working mum in a demanding job I often struggled with juggling too many conflicting demands and priorities, sometimes coming close to the edge. Now I watch my grandchildren and wonder about next generations, the world they will inherit and how we are equipping them for whatever lies ahead.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about the complex challenges and pressures parents face today, how critical and undervalued a parent’s role is in raising citizens of the world, and how women often struggle, through no fault of their own, to confidently lead their children to adulthood – it’s a real-life heroic journey!

I’m exploring ways to support mothers - in mid life or older - in flipping the switch from chaos to calm, weary to wise, hopeless to hopeful - and if this you, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’m running this quick survey and would really appreciate hearing from any mums in their 40's or older who are frankly struggling – whether it’s the parenting bit, relationships, being “me” ….

I'm keen to understand what tools or support older mums are looking for now - or have longed for at any point.

If this resonates, please take a look. It's confidential but if you are happy to add your email address, or DM, I’ll send you the results and keep you updated on progress!

Thank you very much. 🙏
