[Posting on behalf of The Social Market Foundation think tank]

The Social Market Foundation think tank, together with Brent Council, is researching gambling licensing and the clustering of gambling premises. We’re looking at the impact of these venues, especially on local high streets. A particular focus is on how vulnerable groups – including children – might be affected by having a high number of gambling outlets in one area. We’re especially interested in adult gaming centres (casino-style shops with slot machines), though we’re also interested in gambling venues (such as betting shops) more broadly.

We’d like to hear from you:

Are you affected by gambling in your family? How does it affect your children?

How concerned are you about the presence of gambling venues on your local high street?

Do you have specific thoughts about casino-style adult gaming centres?

Have you seen, or are you aware of, children or teenagers going into these venues or spending time near them?

Do you feel that the presence of these venues risks normalising gambling among children and teenagers?

Would you like to see more or fewer of these venues in your area?

If you have thoughts or experiences to share, we’d love to hear from you. If you would like to contact us directly, please email SMF researcher, Jake Shepherd ([email protected])
