Perineal stitches & healing after birth – what would you/did you try?

Hi, I’m a midwife and researcher planning a study about recovery after perineal stitches/tears following vaginal childbirth. This is a very under-researched area, and because I want to make sure this research focuses on what matters most to women, it would be hugely helpful to hear from anyone who has given birth vaginally (or is hoping to) by responding to a 5-minute anonymous survey about perineal wound healing after giving birth.

One option I’m considering exploring is medical-grade honey which is already used in some NHS trusts for perineal wound care. However we don’t know enough about its benefits or women’s experiences of using it, and I’d particularly like to gauge how women might feel about this as a potential treatment for tears and stitches.

This survey is not part of a research or commercial study but a chance to share your views and ideas to help shape the study design, so that the research reflects what women feel is important in recovering after childbirth. Your feedback won’t be used as research data but will guide how the research is planned if that makes sense.

I used lavender oil in the bath x 2 a day. Was time consuming but it was relaxing and soothing. Also had an inflatable ring to sit on. No ongoing issues 25 years later.

Tea tree and lavender oil - in a glass of milk and then poured into a warm bath
