Magistrate Interview

Hi everyone,

Im in the process of applying to be a Magistrate and have been invited to an interview.

Has anyone else been through this process ?

Any advice , tips , pointers etc would be greatly appreciated.

They give you some info beforehand of what to expect. Just be yourself and you will be fine.

Yes. It was intense.
There's a lot of information online.
Make sure you know the key values and codes.
It is good to show you have an understanding of what crime figures are/types of crime in your locality and what the current focus is on tackling.
Prepare to be asked your opinion but also how you'd manage bias of both yourself or others on the bench.
Have you sat in on any hearings yet? It would be useful to do that pre interview.

I wasn’t really asked about local issues at all but they did ask if anything had surprised me in my observations.

Just think about examples you can give about how you demonstrate the 5 attributes and they will also ask about your character and commitment to the role etc.

How did you get on @mommymedic ? I got the DBS form a few days later which was a clue I had passed!
