Sold car - forgot to delete phone

I’m hoping someone who knows a little more about cars than me can help.
I’ve sold my car (today), and have only just remembered that I didn’t delete my phone. I’m wondering if phone log/contacts remain stored in the info system of car?
it was a Hyundai Tucson (66 plate).

I know not much I can do about it now- trying to reassure myself no one will want to call my contacts just for the sake of it 😐

My car only works if the phone is there for it to link to.

Ditto. You can probably check on line. Your sat nav destinations might be there though.

WorriedAnxiousAndStressed · 03/06/2026 08:09

Thank you; I’ve tried to google but couldn’t seem to find a reliable answer (might have been because I was half asleep!)
yes, I also remembered the sat nav hadn’t been cleared 😳

You might be able to disconnect from devices on your phone.

Unless things downloaded to the car's software nothing will be accessible unless you're in the car. I think (well hope)

When I’ve been in hire cars there are always loads of phones still “connected” to them but no way to access any data so I’d say you’re fine.

JuneJoys · 03/06/2026 08:16

i assume it's the same in all cars (??) so the car just accesses your phone details when your phone is present. You could just ring a Hyundai dealer if you really want to check.

Sat Nav is different. Did you sell your car privately or to a dealer or something like 'we buy any car'?

they should wipe your Sat Nav, but I really wouldn't worry about it. What does it matter if a new owner knows where the previous owner lives?

WorriedAnxiousAndStressed · 03/06/2026 08:18

Thank you; I’m hoping the information only downloaded temporarily whilst phone connected to car.

I cant imagine going through someone’s phone book would be that interesting 🥴 (hopefully not accessible but just in case).

Posted at same time as other replies.
I do recall buying cars with phones connected, but all I could see was the phone name , so hopefully that’s all they’ll see.

the buyer stated he was a dealer; so I’m hoping he’ll reset the whole system anyway before selling on.

I've bought a few cars in recent years. Most have the recent and home destinations still in the sat nav from the previous owner. Never been tempted to go on a tour of their favourites for shits and giggles 😂

The only annoying one was my latest car was still bound to the previous owner. I had to jump through some quite annoying hoops with the manufacturer to get them to forcibly unbind so I could connect my phone for remote heating, etc.

I did reject a car once as it had big issues. I purposefully kept it bound to my phone and watched as it went straight back on the forecourt, was sold again, spent 3 months in a repair garage before ending up at BCA auctions.

It doesn’t download at all, the car just acts as a ‘screen’

StraightTalkingTina · 03/06/2026 12:54

You can delete the car device from your Bluetooth list and the car won’t be able to connect to it.

nothing is downloaded to the car itself.
