May Dip St. Andrews

Had to laugh.....female bathers in the sea at St Andrew's for the 'May Dip' complaining that images of them were being circulated despite having been warned about it. One student reported her poor self-image yet still went ahead with others in their bikinis being photographed by men hiding in tents with their 'long lenses' out.....excuse the imagery. How naive --- what did they expect? If it was such an issue, why not dress more modestly, in Victorian garb plus head bonnet (and a wooden wheeled changing vehice). I don't recall this May Dip in the 70's anyway....must be relatively new. I cannot believe these young women don't know how the media works...thought they were supposed to be intelligent. 😸

Not at all....I can't believe they're so stupid. It's a public place. They were told about it but still went ahead. This is not misogynistic....it's reality.

It's like everything else in life....if it's likely to cause a problem for you, then don't do it. It's called consequences.

BTW....you might want to look up the meaning of misogynist.

To be fair, its well known that you're likely to get photographed during this particular event and it often appears in the local press.

You’ve called these women stupid, naive and questioned their intelligence. I’d say that’s pretty misogynistic.

Of course women should be allowed to be seen in their swimwear without being photographed, but that's hardly the point. The point is, is that they are. If they know this is likely to happen, and they should know, then don't complain. My wife agrees with me....just don't go, or dress in such a way that these photographers would just lose interest. Simple logic.

Incidentally, calling them stupid and naive is not misogynistic -- I'd have said the same if it was men. In any event, they must be naive if they thought there wasn't likely to be the obvious consequences. The message had already been made clear to them. How many males had been photographed and images circulated...precious few if any. This goes back to my belief that men's brains work at a very primitive level - not sure of the equivalent term for misogynism when insulting males.

it’s a great pity that women marry sexist, victim blame-y men but I suppose there are some with low bars out there 🤷‍♀️

It was my wife which drew my attention to this, and I'm simply voicing her opinions - to which I agree. The opinions from those clearly not understanding my point are obviously from ignorant individuals who cannot understand the narrative.
