Hi, my dd is nearly 9 she has spotting on and off from last 1 month. If anyone experienced same symptoms would like to hear about it. When it will be stopped. I know everyone’s body is different but I am keen to know about it.

I haven’t had experience of this, but my DD is a year older and if I was in this situation I would check with a GP. Probably totally normal start of periods but worth checking as she’s so young? How old were you when you started?

This, go and see the GP for advice.

I‘ve been told that the onset of periods is triggered by weight (49/50kg). I doubt your 9 year old is that weight. I’d go and speak to your GP op. No harm in doing so.

@Belemonwhat did the GP say? And how much does DD weigh?

bumptybum · 26/04/2026 18:33

My oldest friend (now 59) started her periods aged 9

Belemon · 26/04/2026 19:56

@MaggieBsBoat she is 29kg. I have already visited Gp. For them it’s normal.

My daughter started her periods just under 3 months ago, only just turned 10.

She had some spotting aged 9 then nothing for about 6 months then her periods properly started.

If your daughter has other signs of puberty it’s probably her periods, and it’s considered normal to start any time from 8 years old.

However, if you are concerned in any way, make an appointment with her GP.

Friend of mine started at 8 years of age.

My DD started her periods at 8, which was considered a bit early (She's 24 now). Periods came more 'regular' after 6 months or so?
