Are you from a huggy family?

No one in my family has hugged me, ever, if I remember correctly.
I look at other people’s families and wish I was part of their family. Mine live away and I rarely see them anyway.

I was raised in a huggy family and we also said “I love you”. Our parents are dead, died young, and my brother and I never hang up the phone without saying it. My husband, our two adult children, and I are huggers and also say “I love you.” All the time. I am so grateful for these expressions of genuine feeling and attachment. I don’t hug non-family without asking “Is it okay to give you a hug?” It’s just a sign of respect for people who may not be physically demonstrative. My friend’s mother saw her husband hug him when he was eleven years old and said, “You have to stop that, Carl. Kevin is too old for hugs.” Kevin is still wistful about it. My MIL and FIL only very occasionally hugged DH and BIL. Never said “I love you” because “Of course, we love you. No need to say it. It’s understood.” Obviously, he is different with our kids. Family cultures differ, and that’s okay.

We are like half way, if it’s important or something when we won’t see each other for a while or just a big thank you we hug.

Otherwise it’s just shown in other ways, same with friends.

I’m not and now as a adult I’m only huggy with my dh and kids. I find hugging/ hand shaking/ kissing anyone else extremely awkward.

are you huggy op?

No - at home we never were. I actually hate hugging and kissing people, first when you meet them and again when you leave. I don't really like physical contact with anyone, except my dog!
