Littermates together is never a good idea, sorry. And if the breeder said yes that's a red flag in itself.

Littermate syndrome.

Takes a lot of extra work & one puppy is plenty of work as it is.

No sensible, ethical breeder would let you have two pups from the same litter, let alone two females.

We had 2 Labrador puppies from the same litter, both girls & they were brilliant. Happy, contented, relaxed dogs that played together, slept on one bed together even though they had one each etc

Both sadly gone now but were 14 & 15 when we lost them.

My friend did this with 2sister King Charles spaniels and after spending a fortune on dog behaviourists and even a 4 week residential course for the dogs alone she had to rehome one of them. I would never ever do it you are setting yourself up for a lot of heartache.

Ours were pedigree, kennel club registered labradors from a fantastic small breeder whose own dog was the mother. This was her second & final litter. The breeder had a policy that they would take the dogs back at any point during their lives for whatever reason.

We brought them home at 11 weeks old.

Litter mates shouldn't be kept together because of littermate syndrome. There will be people who say they had litter mates and it was fine but why risk it? It isn't in the best interest of the pups, a responsible owner wouldn't ever consider it.

I also would advise not getting bitches of a similar age together even if they are from different litters.

Bitch fights are nasty. Having similar ages together increases the risk of fights. Some bitches may get on beautifully but personally I don't think it is worth the risk. Staffs are strong and I wouldn't want to have to try and break up a bitch fight. I say that as a longtime Staff owner who wouldn't have any other breed. I have had bitches together but with a large age gap so no competition between then.

The fact the breeder is allowing not only littermates to be taken but two bitches shows that they are a poor breeder.

I'm guessing they are blue SBTs? If so there aren't any ethical breeders of blue staffs.

Staffs are the best but please get one from a good breeder. Contact your local SBT club and get them to point you in the right direction

We had 2 brothers with no trouble at all

I have two pedigree littermates. I was worried about littermate syndrome but it’s not been an issue. The breeder herself also kept a pair of littermates. Mine get on fine, they are independent of each other but also like to hang out together and snuggle in on the sofa. I found two puppies not significantly worse than a singleton

Choochoobutho · 16/04/2026 18:04

I have done this BUT I bred the litter and had the necessary time and expertise to do it.

It’s worked out great but it was hard work when they were younger. I wouldn’t have let anybody else have two from the litter and I probably wouldn’t do it again. I think an 18 month gap is sensible

I'm another one saying no.
The breeder should not be letting you buy them
Littermate syndrome - Wikipedia

It sounds like it's your first puppy. Get one, then get another one if you still want one when the first one is past the puppy stage.
