Scabies (again!) How long to get believed that you still have it following treatment?!

So much I could write, but simply to ask how long did it take people to be believed by medics that they still had it & that treatment has not been totally successful. I honestly have it, not my anxiety, and I’m not being believed. I can’t get husband to treat until I can prove I definitely still have it ie a medic diagnoses me again.
Almost 4 months of this wretched and the impact on my mental health is huge.

OP if you have it you would have the marks, it can take a long time for itching to go. Have you tried the Malathion lotion. It took three normal creams prescribed by Doctor, two doses of tablets and then finally the Malathion got rid of the little fu#kers!
The mental health impact this had on my teen was awful. Took 5 months for the shit show to be over. But I don’t think they had it the last 4 weeks but just were in such a high state of anxiety.

Here are some of the recent concerning photos, including ridges just appearing on my nails which can be a sign of scabies on the nail bed.
I’ve had 6 x permethrin treatments and 4 lots of weekly ivermectin-now 3 weeks of no treatment (only putting permethrin on new spots/bumps) . I also have spots in areas I wouldn’t find appropriate to post photos of on here.

I’ve got Malthonian, I ordered Derbac M online , but waiting for permission to use from medics- until I get believed that it’s not : eczema, insect bites, ‘life’ , folliculitis or dermatitis (all diagnosed since January 2026!) I’ll wait until I get permission to use it.
Glad you are clear and thank you for your reply @Thingcanonlygetbetter.

I would crack on with the Derbac. My heart goes out to you, I honestly thought my teen was going to have a mental breakdown with this. Thanks be to god it is over. I couldn’t think of the name of it when I posted the other night but it was derbac that finally got rid of it. It’s really on the rise in the uk.

@Thingcanonlygetbetterthank you, I’ve got another docs appointment next week after being told I’m clear and not to treat on Friday. I’m also trying to get an appointment with infectious diseases doctor, so have just put permethrin on as I’ve worked out I need to have obvious marks etc on me for medics not to dismiss scabies - it’s horrid not being able to treat myself properly, but feel this is my only ‘chance’ of being believed.
Also husband won’t treat as he’s happy the medics have given him the all clear not to have to do anything to combat scabies, I need a diagnosis for husband to not just be telling me it’s my anxiety. Husband not understanding and quite controlling, he can’t handle the ‘inconvenience’ of scabies so has head in sand - which is in my opinion one of the reasons I’m still fighting it after almost 4 months.

I am seeing a psychologist, but it’s not helping as the symptoms are real and I feel diseased and frustrated that I’m not believed (very common apparently). The domestic situation has only made this more difficult which makes me feel lonelier too. I feel hopeless, can’t see this ever ending. I won’t make many plans, it’s hard getting through one day at a time. I’ve lost so much of me already, and any dreams have faded as I’ll be stuck here in my scabies ridden house with my controlling husband forever.

I will use Derbac M after seeing GP, whether they say it is or it isn’t …it can only be scabies, and I’ve had pin pricks all day long with red patches and bumps appearing close by.

sorry to be so miserable.😞

You have every right to be miserable it is rotten. Our teen said she didn’t touch another human for 4 months because of it. Imagine at 18 prime of your life. I could see the sadness in the eyes. Saying no to events, sleep overs, trips. Op you could have bigger issues than scabies e.g a dick of a husband. Think you need mass support to get through it. We did everything we could to get the bloody things out of the house

GardeningMummy · 17/03/2026 14:29

I don’t understand why you won’t use Derbac - the standard treatment, before going to see a doctor? The Derbac could solve it!

@Thingcanonlygetbetteryes, husband is the main difficulty and I’m terried of my young adult getting it too, husband just says if he gets it he gets it!!! I explained it’s bad enough for me a boring 50 year old in a sexless relationship, but for my son in a long distance relationship off on a big trip in a few months it’ll be a disaster.
Thank you for your kindness.💕

@GardeningMummythr frustrating thing is they’ve told me not too as say it’s not scabies and when I’ve seen dermatologists I’ve always been fairly clear with no scratches only a few bumps they put down go various other things like insect bites or eczema (which I’ve never had before). I need them to see the marks , they don’t care for photo evidence, apparently they have to see something in the examination.
Also husband is quite controlling and had told me that the doctors says I haven’t got it and would go off on one if he saw me treat it…I live on egg shells, I can’t do Derbac discreetly and there ars no windows for me to do it.
It’s all a bit complicated, but taking husband out of equation it’s because the medics have told me not to do it mainly, I need fo prove to them I need treatment.

@Thingcanonlygetbetter ps Tips for Derbac application please 🙏

I’m tall so will I need 2 bottles?

Can I put it through my hair- this is long and thick so I’ll need a lot I guess.

Is it ok to put on sensitive areas?

I’m hoping to be able to use it very soon when I finally get it diagnosed as chronic scabies still from original diagnosed outbreak in November.

I wish there was more support in the community for this horrid condition, sorry for reaching out to you again.

Reddit and the Facebook group just made my anxiety worse so I only come on hear online to discuss it ….which I know frustrates some members that I’m always posting ….as you know from your daughter, until you’ve had it a person has no idea how this condition impacts mental health.
