How many baby bottles do you need for a new born? Looking at getting 260ml bottles but not sure how many we'll need!

Are you intending to breastfeed at all? If so I wouldn't get too many as breastfed babies can be very fussy about the type of bottle they like (the closer to nature ones aren't actually the solution like a lot of people think!) Here's a good site for information:

It'll be a while before you need 260 bottles as well! I would stick with the little ones initially. If exclusively bottle fed, at least 6. It depends how often you're willing to wash and sterilise them really! I prefer the microwave sterilisers as they're so quick.

Start with a couple of the small ones you like. Babies don’t always like what we choose. Then you’ll buy different ones.

I got the Tommee Tippee ones, they were fine for my son who was combifed. I would recommend at least 8 bottles if you are bottlefeeding. The steriliser usually takes 6 at a time. You will need at least 2 spare, clean, dry and ready to go.

I remember also getting sample Mam and Nuk ones at baby events/in baby bags so keep an eye out for freebies, it may be a good way to see what your baby takes to.

8 I'd say

If bottle feeding then minimum 6. I don’t think you’d regret 8. They feed every 3-4 hours on average and you don’t want to be washing and sterilising multiple times a day.

We have 6. Exclusively bottle fed from 2 months and 6 was just about enough. I bought the Tommy tipee starter set of bottles, but my baby was a hungry bear so she only used the small bottles for a very short time. I wouldn't buy the smaller ones again.

We had 4 small ones to start with. Once we knew baby was taking them reliably, we bought another 4 large ones so that we had enough for a whole day of feeds and only one lot of washing / sterilising to do. Once she was taking over 180ml a feed, we bought another 4 large ones. She was quite little though, so it took her a long time to get to 180ml feeds. If baby is tracking a bigger centile, I'd probably just go straight for the larger bottles.

DD2 had some oral disfunction and a very severe tongue tie so we had help from a specialist feeding team. With their help, we tried tommee tippee (hopeless - spilt everywhere), mam (too wide for her mouth), dr brown (good but very expensive) so settled on nuk first choice as a good option.

We got one big and one small. We then bought another big and small because he didnt like the first kind. The sterilizer is very fast and i just cleaned the bottle after every feed
