Is there a new trend whereby visits to see your new Grandchild cannot take place until ten days have passed after the birth, also applies to relative or friend?

It's entirely up to new parents when they want anyone to meet their baby.

How about babysitters, your soon asked then at the drop of a hat when it suits them.

The concept of the newborn bubble, where the parents bond with their baby alone, has been around for quite a few years now. Give them their space - they will thank you for not pressuring them.

It's completely up to the parents as to when they feel comfortable, it may have been a traumatic birth and the mother may want time to physically and emotionally recover before welcoming visitors. Are you suggesting that grandparents should only be happy to babysit on the proviso that their needs to see the baby should trump the parent's needs for immediate time and space to recover and get into a routine?

newborn bubble... I wish we'd known about this concept with our kids. Babies born in the morning and visitors started arriving at hospital around lunchtime!

Thanks for your views, although I don’t agree much with the answers.

Fran - I'm with you on this. Grandmother was there within 5 hours of the birth and it was a big help. But the constant stream of visitors got a bit tiring....
