Changes to caring for baby (from our parents generation)

Hi all,

So speaking to parents there have been changes (in research and advice) since we were raised:

Baby shouldn't be given water (Unless prescribed)
Baby shouldn't sleep on their stomach
Baby should sleep in an empty cot

So my main question is what other changes in research and advice have you noticed that should be raised to soon to be grandparents?

We don't want to assume they know the updated research and just highlight anything that is different to when we were raised without over explaining or repeating things they know.

Later weaning. Car seats. Awareness of the dangers of being too hot (rather than too cold).

Baby led weaning= mess everywhere

I bought this for new Grandparents https://amzn.eu/d/fhvFkxe

My folks are lovely and respectful but also genuinely interested in why things have changed and this book helped . Also seems the author was popular in baby books in the 80s so bonus has some clout.

No baby rice in bottles,
overheating being linked to cot death ( I get before central heating baby freezing was a concern now it's the opposite and that was hardest for my mum who feels the cold herself), not bathing everyday or for first week.
I don't use nappy cream as disposable nappies don't keep their bums wet.

Not weaning until 6 months
Not giving honey below 1 years old
Not making up entire days worth of formula and sticking it in the fridge (although I know loads of people my age who do this 😂)

No I don't get formula milk stamps from Boots 😳 - my mother couldn't believe that one that I actually had to pay for formula!

No I won't be in hospital for 10 days post c section - most likely 1 night and that's it

Recommended weaning age is 6 months.
Safer sleeping guidance including sleeping on back at foot of cot.
Car seats particularly that they are rear facing. And coats shouldn't be worn under the straps (big disagreements with my parents about this).
Breastfeeding on demand not to a schedule.

Allergens advice - now advice is to expose early in weaning, small amounts, often
Weaning age 6mo +, based on readiness cues
Baby rice in bottles is a choking hazard
All things sleep/cot safety
Car seat safety including extended rear facing

No cot bumpers (and other sleep-related stuff). MIL bought us some cot bumpers and was a bit offended we didn't use them.

Responsive/demand feeding rather than 3 hourly on a schedule when they are teeny.
