Hi all!

I saw a thread earlier about petty things that annoy people on Mumsnet and wondered if it was worth making an opposite thread where people can share things they like about it or anything they've found helpful!

OP posts:

The blunt honesty

I like reading threads and realising how completely fucking mad some people are. It makes me feel a lot better about myself.

Ditto.

And it makes me eternally grateful that in real life I never encounter anyone like that.

Some topics are great - I have found elderly parents to be be good, cost of living informative and it is good for information on menopause or feminist issues. I also like the lighthearted threads, I have enjoyed seeing peoples christmas trees and decorations!

I had some amazing support when I was just about to start sleep training with my DS. I was terrified of doing it but it was the only option left.

I had so many people that gave me encouragement and patiently read my endless blithering.

Over a year later, it’s still the best parenting decision I’ve ever made.

I live in rotherham and have a 2 Yr old and don't really have parent friends, but I would love to meet some.

You have posted on the wrong forum. Net mums is that way ---->

I'm nosy and I like reading about people's lives.

WallaceinAnderland · 18/12/2022 20:55

The honesty.

I've been here over 20 years Blush and I love the range of views ... some I don't agree with but it makes me think about different approaches. I also like the robustness and direct views.

Incite to peoples lives. First time mum late night feeds mumsnet was my go to.

And me. Its 90% entertainment and validation of the ‘WTF!’ variety.

If you ignore the negativity, there are a lot of people on here who genuinely want to help, and are very supportive.
I have no friends, just work colleagues, and it’s nice to have somewhere to vent and ask for help/advice.

WithIcePlease · 18/12/2022 21:44

It's a real eye opener in so many ways. I've learned so much here about relationships, boundaries, abuse etc that I think it's made me better in my job and as a parent of YA DD's
And some of it is hilarious- I wish I had the turn of phrase and humour that some have here
And it really helps with ideas for buying presents

IDontWantToBeAPie · 18/12/2022 21:50

It's a modern day womens circle. We don't tend to have those much now - where the community's elder women, mothers and young women come together to solve problems.

Mumsnet fills that need.

I would suggest using peanut for this. I’ve made some great mum friend and we meet up regularly. Ive found it great to have friends with children around the same age so we can ride the wave together
