i've never been an obsessive house-proud person but always liked everything tidy.. have manageable clutter but now during Covid, have no energy to tackle anything and looking around my living room, you would think a homeless person has moved in!! Yes no-one is going to see it as live alone but am i alone in thinking i just want to move into a new clean uncluttered house rather than tidy up...

I would imagine that a large proportion of people currently without safe, permanent housing were also house-proud, when they had a home, and probably would be again, given the opportunity.

The untidiest person I've ever known was a wealthy, ex-Etonian friend with several family homes, first encountered when we were undergraduates at the same Oxbridge college ...

Why would someone with no home have lots of clutter? You may want to rethink the attitude.
That said it sounds like you are feeling a bit down and not motivated to tidy up. Not that surprising in time of lockdown when there is no chance of anyone popping in and seeing it.
The answer is the same as how you eat an elephant. One bite at a time, so every time to leave a room you take something to put/throw away.

I feel the same, OP. But I've booked a slot at the dump/recycling center this week, and I'm going to load up the car.

Hopefully after that I can put some order on what remains, and then clean. And then paint. It will be an ongoing process.

BERNICE63 · 01/03/2021 13:36

Yes i need to go to local recycling centre but being mobility impaired don't wish to bother anyone for help at the moment...
And my post wasn't intended to cause offence to anyone who has been forced into homelessness or permanently without a home...sincere apologies if i have...

I also think that lots of people will have let things slip during lockdown now that most people aren't having visitors.

Could you start by emptying all of your bins to the outside bin? At least then you'll have somewhere to put any rubbish.

I can see that you've said that you don't want to ask for help, but could you ask a friend or relative if they're ready to help when lockdown is over?

You might find this thread helpful too Smile

Well you did cause offence. I was once homeless and sofa surfed for a while. I am very house-proud and always maintained clean and tidy environment and appearance.

It could be said that those that acquire clutter and re messy are lazy. Not nice for people to make assumptions.
