Hi, its my first post on Mumsnet, so please be kind :)

Ive recently found out that I'm pregnant, "due" date (post bloods) is July 19.

Ive been googling my brains out on information, as I'm completely clueless on the do's and don'ts and really don't want to do any unnecessary harm. Ive been struggling with the constant nausea in my 1st Trimester, and trying to work out the difference between hunger pangs and general sickness (which as you know is a hard task). So to prevent over eating I've been trying to stick to my usual eating habits. Im finding most food boring and bland and almost eating for the sake of it. Ive also been reading about vitamin A.

Right.. lets get to the point! Sorry!

Before I realised I was pregnant I thought it was a virus, due to the cold weather.. so i'd been upping my soup intake. Filled with Carrots and Squash and assorts of foods containing Vit A. Now I'm worried that I didn't take a test earlier. And as my bloods aren't due to be done for a couple of weeks, I'm struggling to know what to eat for the best.

Also is it too early to do exercises, as I'm thinking it might ease a bit of the cramping?

Im finding mixed messages online, so thought id ask someone directly.

Thanks in advance,

If you’ve been taking a supplement with vitamin a, check with your doctor. If you’ve just been eating plenty of veg I’m sure you’re fine!

Relax about overeating. If you’re queasy there’s a good chance you’ll start throwing everything up soon (sorry!) and will want extra reserves to see you through. I think unless you’ve an eating disorder or are seriously overweight you need to eat to hunger during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

With exercise in pregnancy the message I had was to avoid sports with a danger of being bashed or falling hard (rugby, boxing, climbing, horse riding etc) but otherwise carry on with whatever you already do. Don’t start running/spinning if you’ve not been doing it recently anyway as it’ll raise your core temperature too much for the baby. Walking is great, definitely safe to do as much as you like, and being in the fresh air helps the nausea. Pregnancy yoga/Pilates with a qualified instructor is fab if you can afford it, and will help deal with the aches and pains of later pregnancy too.

Thanks for the reply Verbena87!

I have only taken the supplement that the doctor advised, which has the Folic Acid, Iron etc.. but it was the fact I had been eating Pate, (only once) and homemade soups with the vitamin A in before realising I was pregnant. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to matter how much or little I eat, I feel how I feel at that particular time. So that was the reason for just eating my normal food and adding snacks in between if I needed it. Ive tried porridge which normally fills me up too much, to the extent of bloating. however since being pregnant I'm finding that it has had the same effect as just eating granola and yoghurt? So I thought, as long as I can ease the nausea Id try anything. But there doesn't seem to be a formula for me, I certainly can't plan for a restaurant meal, even though I have one booked for Friday.. ?!? I think the more you read on google the more confusing it can be. Thats why I came here.

Thanks again for the advice.
