Can't remember baby's name

Hey

I've just had a baby (2 weeks old) and every time someone asks me her name I have to pause to think.

Even when I say her name, I have to think, Christ have I said that right name

I don't know why. It's just not on the tip of my tongue

Do you think it's tiredness? It's really starting to upset me.

To note, I have another girl and never had this problem

Do you like the name? When you think about it now, do you really love it?And have you been having any other memory lapses?

Mummyof0ne · 29/09/2018 00:18

Yes I do like the name. And we have registered the birth so definitely not changing it

I just don't know why I can't judge lodge the name in my head

Antibiotics can cause confusion....see the GP OP!

MeltingSnowflake · 29/09/2018 07:11

Also a UTI or other infections can cause confusion, so if you're on antibiotics for an infection it could be that. Are you forgetting anything else?

It’s been nearly 3 years and I get my kids names mixed up all the time. Filling out forms I have to stop to think. I have to stop and think was she born on the 6th or 7th (to be fair it was just after midnight).

It’s normal :)

biddybid73 · 29/09/2018 07:16

When I first had my son I kept calling him the name of my nephew. I think it's was due to lack of sleep!

SuperSange · 29/09/2018 07:27

Me too; we were in hospital for a week after birth and I kept calling our son two other names beginning with the same letter. 🙄

boatyardblues · 29/09/2018 07:36

I have 2 boys. After DS2 was born I had the same problem and kept calling him DS1’s name. I struck on calling him “Baby Cuthbert*” for a while, the ‘baby’ gave me enough of a run up/thinking time to remember his name. Around about 14 months DH gently suggested it should have stuck by now & I should drop the ‘baby’. Grin

  • Cuthbert is not his real name.

My son is adopted and has a very normal, classic name. But I was exactly the same as you! I had to really engage my brain when I called him by his name. It lasted about 3 or 4 weeks Smile I think it's just getting used to a very new situation.

Piccolino2 · 29/09/2018 07:52

Oh I had this with both my daughters, I had to really think when someone asked their names and felt so stupid. I really think it's normal a new member of your family is a big adjustment and along with lack of sleep your poor mind will be catching up.

papayya · 29/09/2018 07:53

we called our baby by a nickname for so long that I had to force myself to drop it and use his name so it would roll off the tongue easier, I suppose it's fairly normal!

PotteringAlong · 29/09/2018 07:54

I once had a Christmas card from a very good friend about 4 weeks after her second baby was born. She’d Written the card and had called the baby by the wrong name in it!

Meepmoop · 29/09/2018 07:57

I kept calling my DS george for like a month, George is my cat..

SavoyCabbage · 29/09/2018 08:00

My dh thought our dd had a hyphen in her name until she was twelve.

He registered her at primary school too so she was on the register with her first name and her middle name with a hyphen in the middle and then her 'called name' in a separate column (just her first name) throughout primary school.

It wasn't until I was filling in the forms for secondary and he was telling me that I had missed out the hyphen that I discovered this.

Mummyof0ne · 29/09/2018 09:11

@SavoyCabbage that's hilarious lol x

Thanks everyone

You've greatly comforted me today. I felt like I was going mad!!!

Must be the combination of the infection, lack of sleep and antibiotics x
