Hi All. First post here...

My 5m old baby has a low temperature 34.4-35.0 in one ear but the other ear is normal 36ish.
This isn’t a one off as taken temp lots of times!!

She had her jabs last week and had a fever for a couple of nights, she has since come down with a cold and is all snotty etc. The low temp has been for a couple of days.

Took her to the doctors yesterday and was told low temp isn’t such a worry as a high temp, Unless she’s shivering and limp. Indicated could be inaccurate reading from themometer. Still feel worried though. She is wrapped up and doesn’t feel particularly warm but doesn’t feel cold!

Anyone know why readings in each ear could be so different?

Am I being an over the top worrier? would you assume all ok following doctors advice? WWYD?

Thanks I’m advance!

Just a peculiar quirk, that causes a consistently lower temp in that ear. Ear thermometers aren't going to be the most accurate anyway. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I can't use an ear thermometer with DD because her ears are so small. I always get a reading of 34 which obviously can't be right. So I'd guess that your DD's cooler side is because her ear on that side isn't as accessible for the thermometer perhaps.

I've given up on thermometers for DD. The one time when she was young enough to lie still for me to use an under the arm thermometer and she had a high temperature it was absolutely obvious just feeling the heat coming from her so I assume I'll know anyway if she has a high temperature.

Thanks for the reassurance! I think I just need to put the themometer away 🙈

Both of mine are always colder in one ear than the other. I only really check when I'm pretty sure they have a temp but it can be quite a big diff 37.9 and 39 for eg.

I wouldn't worry if she seems otherwise well
