Gas hob v induction?

Hi - old kitchen going going almost gone...and old ceramic hob gone completely! Now having to choose between either a 5 burner gas hob or induction. Ive heard induction is potential health risk (magnetism and pacemakers not compatible), but super quick to use: but gas is also pretty responsive cooking wise but is a pain to keep clean!
Has anyone any comments/thoughts pro/anti either?

I’ve never used and induction so I can’t compare sorry. You might be better posting in the property section. Sounds a bit odd but lots of MNers doing home projects in there Smile

Hello
My husband's a gas engineer and it's basically what you feel happy with. Here's a link to help you :- www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buying-advice/cooking-products/4011-gas-or-induction-hob
The pros and cons make interesting reading.

Kind regards

Induction all the way unless you enjoy cleaning lots of nooks and crannies! I love just wiping my glass hob with a cloth and it's done.

Absolutely induction, but you migth need new pans!

Also bear in mind they are deeper, so whatever they sit over (oven, cupboard etc) might not fit/need moving down

I've had both and currently have induction hob which is way better in my eyes. It's just as responsive as gas. Upsides are it's an extra bit of work surface when you need it and easy to wipe over. Downsides are that it you dont always see that its hot and you have to use suitable cooking pans.

In contrast I hate my induction hob. It's a real prima Donna. The touch controls don't work if your fingers are a bit cold or damp, it squeals its head off if you wipe it with a cloth that is a bit too damp and spontaneously switches itself off. I think that happens if a bit of condensation slides down the side off the pan.

I had a whinge to MIL and she said that she has similar problems.

I also found an enamel gas cooker easier to keep clean than the glass surface. More scrubbable if things get burnt on.
