Hi, I’m new on here so hoping you’ll be able to help. My baby has a milk allergy so is on prescription milk. We’re starting to wean her but struggling to find any baby porridge/oats that don’t contain milk or milk powders. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you Smile

Hi Baby and welcome to MN Thanks

I’ve got CMPA so might be able to help. How old is baby? If she is 6 months you can use normal porridge oats with her usual milk or try making Porridge Fingers with her usual milk.

If you’re after breafast ideas, we love these Blueberry pancakes. I use almond milk instead of cows milk for the recipe. They are small enough for little hands and you can freeze them or all have them together Smile

There’s a MN Weaning Section which you might find useful and there’s also an Allergy Section.

I know it’s not what you asked for but hope it helps anyway Smile

Hi Op. I use this porridge ( we used this and them moved up to the 7months + when the time was right).

You just add your usual milk. I normally mix 2 tablespoons of the porridge with around 60 to 90ml of milk ( for us it is either breast milk or oat milk).

I hope this helps .

Just use normal porridge! Whizz up the oats first in the blender if you want it smoother and make up with the milk. Easy peasy.

You may well find that milk free baby porridge will taste truly foul with CMPA formula. Neutrimigan was bad enough (tasted once only) but moved with some baby cereal, I could see why it was flat out rejected and didn't try again!!!

randomsabreuse · 03/08/2018 13:23

We just moved onto weetabix which was deemed acceptable by her highness!

Thank you everyone! She’s just turned 6 months old and having lots of fun trying new flavours and textures and of course making us laugh with the mess Smile! You’ve given me lots of options to try, so thank you very much, she’s going to love it

Been on the same boat a year ago. Agree with C&G porridge - banana or tropical flavour, they seemed to be the only ones without milk. Slowly moved on to their Muesli after couple of months. I used to add just plain water and my DD liked it. Dietitian told me that I can easily use Oat Milk instead of water or formula to mix in with food as it is nutritionally closest to the cow's milk, but I only started doing that when she was around 10 months. Good luck!

There’s a list here @BabyBoots18 of which weetabix products should be safe Smile

BabyBoots18 · 03/08/2018 18:05

Lovely, thank you!

Just a word of caution as we had the same issue last year... we used prescription formula with blitzed porridge oats or Weetabix. However DD had also been dropping milk feeds and was found to be lacking enough calcium in her diet.

We switched to Cheerios (calcium fortified) and switched from coconut yogurt (Coconutters, Heavenly pouches etc) which don’t contain calcium to soya yogurt which does. She had a major growth spurt after the switches!

Sainsbury’s have really good allergy information too. Their milk free
products list is here. I used it a lot when I was first diagnosed Smile
