Breastfeeding to Bottle/Cup at 6 months

Hi I have a 6 month old LG who can drink from a doidy cup with help (3oz). I am slowly trying to wean her off the breast to a cup or bottle during the day as I’m going back to work in 7 weeks and she’s going into 9-5 daycare. I hope I can still feed her morning & night myself & formula during the day. I’m afraid that If I wean her off with the cup it’s very messy and awkward if I were out & about, surely it would confuse her if I fed her myself when out as she would be used to the cup by then or should I just persist with a bottle (it’s a lot slower) & use the cup for water? Would anyone else be or have been in a similar situation? Sorry for the long post Grin Unsure what is the best to do!

I was. I weaned directly yo a cup at 6 months and never used a bottle at all. It was very successful.

Thank you grannycab that’s great to hear, she does enjoy the cup more than the bottle. Did it take long? Did you partially wean or were you able to give all of their feeds in a cup? What was it like out and about? Sorry for all the questions I don’t know anyone in my area that uses the cup Grin

She never had a bottle at all as she went straight from breast feeding to using a cup. I started at 6 months and she totally drank out of a cup buy 10 months as she stopped breast feeding then.

It wasn't messy at all. This was a number of years ago though (she is now 27!) and we sent straight to cows' milk at 6 months.

My son drank formula from his cup from the same age as he was allergic to cows' milk.

Neither of mine would drink from a bottle and I decided the cup was just much easier, and this was when they still spilled everywhere! Now they seem to have better cups.

I would say just go for it as then you won't have to wean off the bottle.

My lg always refused a bottle. When we weaned her and she could drink water from a sippy cup, we started giving expressed milk in a cup too. I still feed her when she wakes, when I get home from work, at bedtime and night feed if needed. When she’s at the childminder she has one cup of expressed milk a day. She has one or two extra daytime feeds on weekends when I’m at home. She’s not confused as she only gets milk from a cup when I’m not with her.

So summary -

I started introducing the cup at 6 months and did mixed feeding using the cup for milk and water until 10 months when she used a cup exclusively.

Does that help?

Thank you all so much that’s great you have helped put my mind at ease! The cup it is then Smile my girl is dairy free as well the formula tastes rank lol she can still takes it though! Weaning off by 10 months sounds lovely, we haven’t had a date night since was born the hubby will be happy to hear that lol I may start this week with replacing a feed a day and see how it goes

My boob loving, bottle refusing DD used a free flow old fashioned style sippy cup with some formula in when I needed her to have some milk and I wasn't around. She wouldn't take more than 3-4 ozs but this was enough to get her by once she was 6 months plus.
It was the only style of cup she'd take milk from if it didn't come from boob.

That sounds like my Boobie monster too lol she can only take 3/4 but I’m hoping she will not need as much milk then as she takes now, every 2 hours Smile but she sleeps all night, maybe up once, I shouldn’t complain, thank u everyone for all your help!
