Hi
Really hoping for some advice! I am a single mum working full time and claiming child care element of tax credits.
I have just received a letter fromHMRC about tax penalties asking me for bank statements as to how much I was paying my daughters nursery.
I was entitled to the 15 hours free childcare which I received.I was under the impression I did not have to inform tax credits of this as it is govement funded.
Now bank statements will not match how much I claimed for childcare as this was payed direct to the nursery!
Will they consider this over payment that I will have to payback?
Getting sick with worry
Please any advise as to what will happen will be greatly appreciated

You can only claim from tax credits the amount you actually pay for child care. It sounds like you have been over paid. You need to let them know what you actually pay after the free 15 hours has been taken off your bill and then they will recalculate your payment. It may go down considerably as you will have been over paid since the free 15 hours started.
