Hello 🙂New to this site and would love to chat to some other would be young mums. I'm 26 and my husband and I are ttc our first - I've just had a faint positive on a pregnancy test and am now worrying whether I'm too young to be having a baby! Are there any other young first time mums out there with the same worries?

Not a first time mum but don't worry your not too young, I am 24 and am currently 19weeks pregnant with baby number 4, and am also guardian to my niece.

Not to young I was pregnant at 18 miscarried then got pregnant again 2 months later still age18

mayhew · 04/06/2017 20:32

26 is not a "young mum"!

HalfShellHero · 04/06/2017 20:33

I second mayhew im.26 i have a 6 and 4 year old.

LTBiscuit · 04/06/2017 20:35

Eh? In the nicest way you're not a 'young mum'!!!

elliejjtiny · 04/06/2017 20:39

I wouldn't say you are a young mum. I had 2 sons when I was 26 and I'm in the middle agewise of the mums in ds1's class. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 04/06/2017 20:42

In my circles you would be a very young mum. I am 29 and none of my social circle have children.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 04/06/2017 20:42

If you were under 20 I would probably say teenage mum not young mum.

PacificDogwod · 04/06/2017 20:45

Welcome! Smile

And congrats on your BFP - how exciting!

And 'young'? By what standard? Biologically? - No. Socially? - Depends on the circles you move in. Compared to Methuselah? - Yes, definitely!!

There's a 'Pregnancy' board you might like to hang out on, but just browse about for a bit and see if MN is for you Thanks

List of acronyms

Not too young at all, I am 22 and have an almost 9 month old dd. Becoming a mother is the best and most fulfilling thing I've ever done. There are a lot of benefits to being a younger mother, recovery from the birth is quicker, you have more energy and the sleepless nights have less effect. All my midwives kept telling me that your twenties is the best time biologically to have a baby. You might get some funny looks or see nasty comments on here about younger parents by you just have to let it wash over you, it's their problem not yours. If you feel ready and are in a position to support a child then go ahead and have a baby!

ElsieMae13 · 05/06/2017 10:01

Haha thanks - I definitely feel reasonably young as although we have lots of nieces and nephews not many of my immediate social circle have kids yet, although a few are thinking about it and there are certainly babies in our wider social groups. I expected to be more excited rather than nervous and now I'm definitely nervous! Did you ladies meet other mums and babies during pregnancy?

Good luck with everything.
I was only 18 with my first baby, I found it scary but it became more exciting towards the end.
My midwife got my into some groups for people in the same situation (might not be the same everywhere) but I found them helpful as I had friends who could help. It was a lot easier when I started meeting similar younger mums.

Always here if you want to message me at some point xx

Hollie96x · 07/06/2017 19:09

I was 18 when I had my daughter, she's now 2Smile it was tough at the start but my bf made everything so much easier . Daughter is a right little character now Smile

Coffeegirl123 · 08/06/2017 14:09

HI!
Congratulations. I am 24 and due in September. I feel WAY too young even though I know rationally I am not.

Ignore anyone who says you are not a young mum, just because you're not 14 doesn't mean you're not young and entitled to feel like a young mum!

Livingondaisland24 · 08/06/2017 15:30

26 isint that young, I was pregnant with my first at 23 and felt abit young then but still not like a teen mum. Late 20's in normal Smile you won't feel ready till babies out really then you'll get in your routine.

Hollie96x · 08/06/2017 21:47

Elsiemae13 nice to meet you toSmile
