Hi, I'm just trawling this part of mumsnet and can see you've not had any responses.
I was diagnosed at 29, last year.
I am also a parent, no longer in a cohabiting relationship due to my struggles, in fact it has more turned into a short distance friendship.
I've also never had any luck with NHS therapies, they're all CBT based.
What you really need is some sort of somatic therapy. It's not publicly covered unfortunately.
What areas of your life do you feel you need support in?
Do you struggle in work? What do you do for a living? What do you like about it? What do you wish you could change about it?
What about your relationships? Friendships? Do you feel like you're struggling to maintain these? Do you have a good support network? What do you wish they could understand about you that they just don't get?
Daily living tasks? Are you coping with personal hygeine? House chores? Cooking? Shopping?
What do you do for fun? Have you ever wanted to have a hobby but it seems like you're either too old, or dont have the skills to do? Some people like collecting things but feel like there might be stigma of things being too childlike or immature.
How do you feel about travelling to new places? Do you enjoy going out? Do you feel pressured to go places that you don't really want to go? Do you have fun when you get there?
Have you ever tried any sensory aids?
What I will say is I have received some post diagnostic support. I was only offered it a few months back, but I've had 2 occupational therapy appointments, which were so worth it. At my first appointment, we submitted a request for a care assessment, we also talked about what I want to do with the rest of my life, ND affirming job agencies, entrepreneur grants and programmes, support groups, a hospital care passport etc.
At my second appointment we also discovered I am probably hypermobile and dyspraxic too, so we set up appointments for those.
I also had my care assessment with adult social care, and they have agreed to help me find social housing, offered me a PA to handle my daily admin tasks, a cleaning service, and I've another appointment coming up to discuss things further. There's so much they can offer to alleviate some of the most arduous tasks. They can also help with PIP assessments, which I highly recommend looking at ASAP and getting support with if you feel like you're struggling with daily living tasks and mobility even if that's due to cognitive distress. It can help fund somatic therapies.
Have a look to see if you have any autism meet ups locally. One of our OTs runs several groups a week, one is at an art gallery where you can learn new skills, one is a park walk, another is where they rent a WMC and have the lights low, music low, board games, another is a gardening club. It's fantastic because you can form those bonds with people around specific interests and it doesn't feel like you're forced into a social situation you don't want to be in.
Wish you all the best for your diagnosis, hope you get some answers.
