Feeling a bit nervous but wanted to share something I've been working on

I’m a psychotherapist (and a mum with ADHD) and recently started a little side project that’s way out of my comfort zone - I’ve built a website full of resources for other neurodivergent women and parents.
It includes some free tools, checklists, and guides - plus a few paid ones I’ve put together based on what I needed myself. Things like summer survival checklists, ADHD hacks, travel prep, emotional regulation etc.
I’m still learning as I go and I know this kind of post can sometimes feel spammy, which I really don’t want - I just thought there might be a few people here who could benefit from it.
Here’s the site if anyone’s interested: neurokindtherapy.co.uk
(Mods, totally understand if this needs to be removed.)
I feel really vulnerable doing this so please be gentle if you can!

I just had a look. I love the idea of very focussed simple stuff like help with making a phonecall. I also read a little about rejection sensitivity which was interesting. I don't have ADHD but am pretty certain if I was a kid now I would be diagnosed as autistic. Be encouraged. I think you have something genuine to offer.

Btw a friend has been diagnosed with ADHD and I loved the info on the perception of time, which gave me more insight into why she is always, but always, late due to overscheduling her day!

Herewegoagain78 · 06/07/2025 18:34

Thank you, that is very, very kind. It is quite nerve-wracking to put yourself out there but I feel encouraged by your kind words. If there was ever anything that I could create for you or a friend to address anything in particular, be sure to let me know and I would happily make it!

Hi, Ellie,

I have an ADHD diagnosis and I work supporting students with ADHD and am always looking for resources, so I checked your website out — and I have serious concerns that I want to raise with you.

First, I can imagine that you will be feeling very nervous posting here because you're advertising your products and you know that's not allowed by Mumsnet.

I notice you're marketing everything through your business name and you don't give your full name or BACP registration so we can have no idea who you actually are. Most authors put their names on books and are accountable for the content, yours seem to be anonymous. You don't give refunds for your products. I don't think that's ethical. It means I could send you £10.99 for one of your 'books', download 15 pages of gibberish and have no way of getting my money back or even contacting you to complain. Which leads me to my next concern:

Bona fide websites will include all the following, where relevant: they will always include contact details and information that can be verified by a purchaser before they make a purchase. I can see none of this stuff on your site and that alone makes me wonder about its legality.

Basic website requirements for all UK-registered companies or organisations is to disclose certain information, including:

  • Registered company name in full, including the name ending (e.g., ‘Limited’ or ‘LLP’)
  • Trading name, if applicable (e.g., ‘ABC Limited trading as XYZ’)
  • Company registration number
  • Jurisdiction of incorporation (i.e., England & Wales, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland)
  • Registered office address
I can't see any of that on your site and that concerns me. I would strongly suggest anyone thinking of purchasing anything from you doesn't do so because the whole thing is so sketchy.

I notice also that the website mentions affiliate links, so people need to be aware that you're hoping to make money from clicks.

So after checking out your website and seeing red flags I did a quick and not totally comprehensive search on the BACP directory for a Psychodynamic therapist called Ellie and I didn't find one. But the directory seems a bit random, so you might be in there somewhere. I've emailed BACP to ask if they can verify that you are a BACP registered therapist.

I sound fierce, I know, and that's because I see so many of the students I work with being sold all kinds of things that are no help to them by people who regard them just as a source of income. I've contacted MN admins to see what they make of your post.

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback, I can see that you had a good look around my website so I’d like to respond to all your points in good faith and with full transparency.
Firstly, I’m sorry if my post came across as promotional - it wasn’t my intention to make anyone uncomfortable. I specifically invited the mods to remove my post if I was indeed breaking any rules. I genuinely created these resources to help others in the ADHD community, especially women and parents who feel overwhelmed and under-supported. I know firsthand how that feels.
To clarify:

  • I am a registered psychotherapist, fully accredited by the BACP. My full name is provided on my professional materials and is available to clients and customers (Ellie is a shortened version of my birth name). I work under the brand Neurokind Therapy, and I’m happy to provide verification privately if needed. I didn’t post it publicly on Mumsnet to avoid doxxing or privacy risks, which are unfortunately common online. In addition, Neurokind Hub is not the website for my private practice, so I do not believe it is essential to provide my personal details. The two are kept deliberately separate as I hope you can appreciate I would want to do given the nature of my job.
  • Refunds are absolutely available - my site clearly states that customers who aren’t happy can contact me directly. I aim to respond promptly and resolve issues fairly. I’ve already issued refunds in the past when requested. I am sure that you can understand that when digital products are concerned, to offer a standard refund policy would make me vulnerable.
  • Contact information is available via my website, which includes a contact form and email address. I do not run a limited company, which is why company registration details aren’t listed - I’m a sole trader operating under a professional brand, which is perfectly legal in the UK.
  • The mention of affiliate links is there for transparency, as required by advertising guidelines. As it happens, there is only one product - Life Made Easy - that contains affiliate links, and even on that occasion, it is clearly suggested that, while a link is provided for convenience, any of the products is available through a number of providers, whom I have no association with.
Finally, I appreciate your concern for vulnerable students. I share that concern, which is why I created my guides and tools with professional care, lived experience, and a deep commitment to ethical practice. I don't use fear-based tactics or false promises, and I strive to offer affordable, accessible support—not exploit need. I have been encouraged by a number of direct messages who have made use of my free resources, so I take comfort in knowing that some people at least have not found me "sketchy". If anyone has questions about my qualifications or my work, I’m happy to answer directly and respectfully. Warmly, Ellie

I'll just quote your refund information on your site back to you:

Due to the digital nature of my products, all sales are final. Once a file has been delivered, I’m unable to offer refunds or exchanges. However, I want you to be happy with your purchase. If you experience any issues accessing your files or believe something isn’t working as intended, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ll do everything I can to make it right.

So people can contact you if there's a technical glitch but if they open your material and find that it's not at all what they expected they can't get their money back? Unlike other online books and resources they can't google for reviews or feedback from other readers. So it's a shot in the dark, having a punt on someone who doesn't give their own name. No registered address for your business that I can see.

If you're on the BACS register and identifiable to the public under your own name then why would you not want to link your name to your brand? Why don't you want your merchandise linked to your name?

I'm going to leave it there and let anyone else reading this thread make up their own minds.

Herewegoagain78 · 15/07/2025 12:30

Thanks for your follow-up. I want to clarify a few things, since your post contains some incorrect assumptions.
Yes, like many small digital creators, I have a refund policy that reflects the nature of downloadable products - once a file is accessed, it can’t be returned. However, I’ve made it very clear that if anyone is unhappy or something isn’t working as expected, they can contact me (via the very obviously displayed email address in the Contact section) should anyone have questions or complaints. That’s not a loophole - a sincere effort to be fair and helpful.

To address the "shot in the dark" feeling, I have 7 full products that are free, if anyone wants to see the style or type of content that I provide. Additionally, each payable product has a preview of at least 3-4 pages, including the table of contents, to give you a sense of what each file might contain.

No registered address is a miss and I will rectify this right now.

With regards to wanting to keep my private practice name separate from my digital content creation name - you are obviously not a therapist, and it pains me that I have to explain why I would not want my private practice clients (some of which have significant neglect, trauma or abandonment issues) to see what I get up to in my spare time.
I reiterate that my qualifications and credentials are available to anyone who works with me professionally, and I operate in full accordance with the BACP ethical framework. However, you do seem to keep wanting to mix my digital products with my private practice psychotherapy - the two are separate ventures and, whilst one informs the other, they are not the same.

Finally, the suggestion that my work is somehow dishonest or exploitative is unfair. I spend a huge amount of time creating practical, low-cost tools to support people with ADHD - tools that are evidence-informed, clearly described, and affordable. You're free to disagree with my approach, but I’d ask that you don’t misrepresent what I do or who I am.
