Hi,
im currently off work with stress and low mood, been there 2 months and its not working.
i found out last week i have been diagnosed with autism, which makes total sense.
i need to be part time and in a role that’s better for me.
we can’t cope on one wage though, but I currently can’t work, im trying to come to terms with the Autism diagnosis and they won’t allow part time.
any suggestions?

A few options - apply to Access to Work as they can help with various things like coaching, adjustments for ASD, taxis to work or whatever you struggle with. Regardless of being part time or not, good idea to apply. Takes about 7 months.

You could contact Citizens Advice for initial advice as to whether it's worth applying for PIP. I found them helpful.

A combination of two jobs possibly.

See if there are any adjustments currently employer can make.

Also, working up to a higher level where part time pays better.

Or possibly doing something like 9-10 months of work a year then leaving and having 2-3 months off work to recover. Not ideal but better than burnout.

Thank you, i can’t stay unless i commit to 2 years at full time due to needing to do a course for the job. Which is my biggest issue

Do you drive? Could you do support work or retail or care work maybe on a zero hours contract, that way you have more control over how often you work during the week. I'm autistic, I have two school age kids one of whom is also autistic so I don't have much energy to spare either.. burn out happens quick and catches us off guard..I work as a store merchandiser part time, zero hours contract..it can be socially difficult and stressful though, hectic and noisy...I honestly feel like im in social and sensory hell when I'm at work but it's only 8 hours a week if that so I'm able to cope by unmasking and regulating myself on my days off.
