Hi
My 15 year old is struggling. She is awaiting an ASD assessment and is currently sitting her mocks. School is very reluctant to help as they don't see any issues as she is achieving ok and behaves in class. Only issue is she is very quiet. She has many issues I have raised over the past 2 years but they always say they see nothing wrong. Her OCD, repetitive behaviours, tapping are increasing at home. I referred her and she is now awaiting an assessment but school won't do anything until a diagnosis is given. I'm so worried as her exams are in months. She is finding concentration in the hall very difficult, easily distracted and finds she has to restart, takes everything literally so finds some questions extremely hard, tells me about the ticking clock and humming of the heater, has always held her pen oddly causing discomfort the list is endless.
I have asked if she could be sat at the back of the hall to the side to try and limit distractions but without a diagnosis they say no, it's school policy and they follow the jcq rules. Am I stuck? realistically she won't get an assessment until the end of sixth form!! It's so unfair as I've always felt she could be achieving higher marks if they only bloody listen. She definitely is not working to the best of her ability. I took am autistic and struggled undiagnosed through secondary. I walked out of all my exams as I couldn't tolerate the smell and noise of the hall, I was predicted A's and it kills me to think she will suffer too. I have a meeting Tuesday which petrified me as the school clearly aren't interested. Please advise.
