Getting ‘stuck’ on one activity/topic

Does anyone else find they get ‘stuck’ focusing on just one thing? I’m currently building a new house in SIMS4 and it’s been all consuming for 4 days now!!
I literally can’t focus on anything else, even when I’m not playing the game I’m thinking about it and planning everything out in my head. I’ve even been planning in my sleep/dreams.

I find it difficult when I get so intensely consumed in a project. When I’m prevented from continuing my build due to boring life stuff - eating, sleeping, cleaning, work etc, I feel agitated and restless until I can get back to my game.

Does anyone else get this way? And what do you do to help?

I do this as well but it’s not something I’ve thought too much about, as I’ve just always been like that? For me it’s a Minecraft project. I just don’t fight it too much 😆 I make myself do X productive things per day which I intersperse with Minecraft. I don’t work away from home though so that would be much harder. If I had to work away from
home and couldn’t play during the day, I’d make sure to give myself permission to play before work (if I’m up early enough for that) and after to relax. But if I don’t achieve my daily tasks I feel like an absolute loser, and when I do them, I feel accomplished and not guilty about obsessing over Minecraft.

I get hyperfocus. Its quite exhausting afterwards so I try not to encourage myself. The main thing that breaks it for me - when it's a computer based hyperfocus (which it usually is) is to do a physical based activity (usually cleaning, laundry, cooking) that involves lots of moving around.

I also had quite a lot of therapy to help with recognising ruminating thoughts /language I use on myself - is it lots of 'I must, I should etc.' ?
