Will I get ADHD meds if overweight with high BP and high colesterol (on meds for both?))

I am 58. My MH is plummeting and my functionality is now v poor. I am out of work the past 8 months and I need to get another job.

I know I have ADHD - so was thinking to go private for assessment - but worried that weight, high BP and high cholesterol will mean I am not prescribed ADHD meds?

Does anyone have any info or experience?

I was thinking of starting weight loss injections before to tackle this before ADHD meds?

What is your bmi if you don’t mind me asking? The wait time even when going private is likely to be several months at least before you have medication sorted and in that time you could lose a fair chunk of weight if going on WLI. I would ask the psychologist whom you are thinking of going to for advice regarding: this, they are quite helpful.

I didn't. My ADHD assessment and subsequent BP tests were how I learned I have high BP. I take meds for that and I also use mounjaro to help me keep a healthy and balanced diet - BP has come down but the mounjaro has actually had such a good effect on my ADHD that I no longer feel that I need to try the meds.

DD got a prescription for meds, which we obtained privately, but she's never been able to take them as her BP is too high.

They won't let you take them if your blood pressure is high. My BP spiked due to stress and I have to stop taking ADHD medication until it dropped.

Thats very interesting - you have just reminded me that I have read lots of posts from users of MJ that thier ADHD symptoms have reduced. Nothing to lose.

Thats what I am worried about - why pay for expensive private consulation / diagnosis when cant then take the meds.

Although I am on BP meds and my BP is well managed.

If you've found a clinic that you want to do the assessment, perhaps you could ask what the situation is regarding ADHD meds and high blood pressure that's under control with medication?

I thought that there were non stimulant meds you could take instead?

Clonidine is one I've heard of.

I think you should go for the WLI regardless and if your BP comes down you could try ADHD meds. I’m on WLI and am in the process of assessment for likely ADHD and haven’t found the WLI help my ADHD symptoms but do know other people have a different outcome. In my case I don’t have high BP though, I struggle with the opposite. The WLI are truly life-changing.

In starting wli on Friday

I went right to choose for adhd/asd and their wait times are about 4-5 months so I am just waiting for assessment now. I went this route as I didn't want to pay for adhd medication.

I have a home blood pressure monitor with a wider cuff (my bmi is 50....) and siting at home relaxed can get a lower score.

Oh just saw you are already on blood pressure meds. I'd contact the provider and see what they say.

I asked mine about wli and they said as long as we weren't starting btoh at the same time it was okay. I'd hoped to start adhd meds first but given I have so much to lose I have gone MJ first.

@Tipsssy Do you know what the blood pressure has to be under? I am wondering if I can get mine down before my assessment... I'm in the amber bit on the NHS chart.
