Adhd medication life changing?

Awaiting my assessment, hopefully in the New year. Finding my suspected adhd getting harder to manage especially the emotional deregulation side of it. How has everyone who has been diagnosed and decided to be medicated finding it?

I was diagnosed in January and am now almost 6 weeks into medication.

On day 1, I felt amazing, ultra focused. It was like a magic switch!

After a few days, the euphoria disappeared and it started to feel like it wasn't working. As my dose increased, I started having really bad crashes in the afternoon.

After that, I decided for myself to split my 60mg dose, so I now take one x 30mg in the morning and another at lunchtime. This seems to keep me much more level, and I don't really notice a comedown. My prescriber was ok with this.

I'm now almost 2 weeks into taking a split dose, and it seems ok, so it might be where I end up staying.

It isn't magic, there's still lots of parts of my adhd that I need to learn to cope with better. However, it has been really positive for emotional regulation and the feelings of burnout. I'm not snapping at my family or crumbling under the pressure of family life like I was 5 weeks ago. I'm still forgetful, disorganised, can't prioritize or start tasks easily, etc.

It isn't a mirical cure by any stretch, but for me, on balance, it seems to be positive.

Be prepared to have yet another wait for medication after diagnosis. I got my NHS diagnosis at the start of July and I'm still waiting for my appointment re medication. They've closed the waiting list due to shortages of the medication not being able to meet the explosion in demand. No one can tell me how long I'll be waiting.

@theginge if it helped with my emotional deregulation and burn out I would be happy as it's cripplingly bad. I just about cope with the disorganisation though. I also am snapping at everyone especially DH and DC. My mood is very temperamental.

@INeedNewShoes sorry to hear that. I've been seeing alot online about the shortages with medication. It initial wait to get assessment is long enough without having to wait further for medication.

I have been on meds for 9 months following a 12 month wait for a medication appointment after NHS diagnosis.

I was put on lisdexamfetamine initially and found this really helped. I was generally able to hold thoughts for longer, my emotions are more stable and I am happier. Life can still feel like it should be overwhelming but I am not as overwhelmed. I was switched to methylphenidate half way through due to shortages and it was rubbish for me. None of the benefits and I felt sad a lot of the time. So I pushed to switch back. I also pushed to stick with a lower dose of the lisdexamfetamine than I was offered as i didn't see any additional benefit for the side effects.

It is a case of trying to see what works for you and my titration experience while long and with a blip in the middle, was through and I was very much listened to in terms of if I was seeing benefit and choices.
