After waiting years for an assessment, I'm happy to say I've an appointment soon.
How did a diagnosis change your life? From medication, to specific therapy to even the diagnosis itself?

Well done got getting an appointment. I've filled in my assessment forms today for ADHD.

You'll have to let me know how you get on Flowers

@TinyMouseTheatre Good luck to you also on your journey. I've been waiting 3 years for this and actually cried when I received appointment date. Maybe my life will change and everything won't be such a god damn struggle.

I can understand why you cried. I totally get that.

I had a bit of a crumble when the GP said that she wasn't going to refer me because I hadn't been sacked in the last 10 years.

@TinyMouseTheatre how awful. Keep pushing it. I had to keep pushing for 3 years! Get a different GP asap!!

I did Right to Choose and have an assessment in February, only 6 months from my initial GP appt. Without RTC it would have been 7 years!
The forms were difficult, I am not in touch with anyone who knew me as a child, and my mum can't remember anything odd about it (despite my obsession with books and the Sound of Music/Annie/Mary Poppins/Countdown early morning TV watching to self regulate).

I think that's where I'm going to struggle. My DF has died, my DM has Dementia and my only Sibling is nearly 6 years younger than me. I've asked her though but she's pretty sure she has ADHD too so it might not go to plan Grin

How did you get on ?

InMySpareTime · 11/05/2025 21:08

@whatisforteamum not sure if you were asking OP or me, but I had my assessments and now have a diagnosis of Autism. I have significant ADHD traits but can’t get that diagnosed because of the lack of childhood reporting, but either way I now have access to resources to help me find out about how to stop masking and get my energy back.

whatisforteamum · 12/05/2025 04:58

Oh that is fantastic.
I have a feeling my lack of childhood evidence will be the same.
My assessment is tomorrow.
