Hello all, Au-dhd woman here! I have began to write little poems about my children’s sensory fears hoping there might be a market for it. I sketch from what I see in my mind when my children get freaked out by seams on socks (there’s crocodiles in my socks!) and getting stuck inside a turtle neck jumper (I have a new jumper)
I haven’t yet looked on the market to see what’s out there as it’s a passion project however my friends and family think I need to try to see where it goes. I have had a chick lit novel published with Penguin so I can write but I’ve never thought of actually taking children’s writing and illustration!
I also began sketching the ‘science’ around our brains because it’s nigh on impossible to communicate what my differences are ESPECIALLY with ADHD. I’m just wondering what you think? An example is the developmental neurobiology of how our brains develop and how synaptic pruning / neurons and who they ‘talk to’ in the brain and how many connections and directions they communicate accounting for sensory issues, and no two of us being the same on account of that, the fact the pre frontal cortex for us, doesn’t actually stop its development and that the executive functioning part of the brain is oftentimes not lit so we have to learn by rote.
That NT people can focus because their brains fro having normal neuron firing can auto shut down the parts it isn’t using on and off depending on task / scenario throughout the day but ours remains open hence the ability to focus only on or largely on what gives us the dopamine hit.
I always feel like my brain is a mind map - or a computer interface with a zillion tabs open and no idea where the music is coming from!
Anyway would you read or find a visual to communicate to those you need for them to ‘get’ you, so you can feel less useless?
If you do.,,anyway also I wanted to ask if my sketch is good enough? I know I need improvement as I’m not a trained artist! Just looking to share with those who are like me x
disclaimer: I can’t draw hands and feet yet! Two friends think the croc is too scary but I was trying to capture the genuine fears and the genuine images my children get with the sock seams!
