Adhd meds. Is there life after stimulants?

Hi everyone just wondered if those who tried stimulants and suffered with awful rebound ended up finding anything else that worked?
We’ve just had to stop medikinet/concerta XL as the rebound was horrible and it altered his personality too much however apparently school saw some improvement.
We are due to go back to see consultant
What's worked for you or your child?

I couldn't take methylphenidate due to cardiac side effects and I couldn't afford the other non stimulant one.

After becoming depressed and the ssri not working, I was put on an snri and these increase dopamine and norepinephrine levels and it is helping the adhd as well as the anxiety and depression. I feel much calmer and focused and motivated. It's not a replacement for pure ADHD meds, but I'm happy on it and my ADHD isn't bothering me as much. I've even managed to read a book and the house is clean.

I don't think they'd prescribe an snri for a child though. I think only Sertraline, an ssri, is licensed for use in child anxiety/depression. It wouldn't benefit ADHD apart from relieving some of the anxiety and frustration/meltdowns/irritability.

thank you @lawnseed
Ds without the meds is just full on and quite annoying. When he was on meds it was pairs with aggression and meltdowns too. Not sure if we increased to 20mg too quickly but would have thought that’s not an overly high dose.
However school reporters calming effect so can only think it was rebound issues.
We are back at the private dr tomorrow again and so she will tell us what’s the next step but assume she will suggest short acting ones to see if rebound is better and i guess then after that we move on to non stimulant.
I don’t know if i can suggest this but wonder if anxiety meds are that much different from adhd meds as sometimes i feel it’s the anxiety that’s making him act out but i guess there is only a fine line between anxiety and adhd if any. We ll see what they say tomorrow
