How many of you have told your manager about a diagnosis (mine being autism), what helped you trust them, how did you go about it etc

So as someone who is ND and a manager I would suggest:

Tell them - ask for a meeting face to face
Explain what that means in real
Terms ie impact on your ability to do job both good and bad
What you need assistance / support with
How you like to c communicate - what helps communication going forward

So for example I told my manager about my adhd and explained what it is
I use a printer analogy - normal brains are analog and mine is 3D
Explaining I take everything in and can create the solution as I understand the problem but I need to be engaged with the topic

Support I need:
Medication- time to collect and order prescription (needs to be done in person)
Meetings - not multiple in a day
Breaks - need to workout sometimes mid day to recalibrate
My ideas are 50 / 50 "sometimes maybe shit, sometimes may be good"
I need feed back and I will assume I am in trouble if you don't tell me what the meeting is about which you request so be frank

Communicate in person is better but full explanation of email if you email

I also need a lot of work as not being busy is incredibly stressful

Thanks for replies. Good advice. Its actually not a new diagnosis, just haven't got courage up yet. There are definitely managers out there who will judge and write you off, it makes me nervous.

My takeaway from all this (I'm also a manager) is really well should all have these meetings and get to know how we best communicate, how to help us be our best at work. No matter whether neurodiverse or not. I definitely need to take the plunge, be a bit/very vulnerable and make a good example.
