Autism diagnosis don’t understand DSM / no levels

Hi the autism diagnosis report 47 pages says Dsm 5 autism but doesn’t say what level. Is this right? I’m confused I was expecting a level 1,2 or 3. Should I ask the service to state the level? Anyone understand all this?

Levels are not always used, even when using dsm 5. Some areas use them, but others don’t. Icd 11, which is usually more commonly used in the uk, doesn’t have levels, it classifies by whether an intellectual disability is present and functional speech impairment.

weirdly, I was diagnosed with asd in 2011, when Asperger’s was still the used term. 3 years ago, for some reason, my psychiatrist decided to rediagnose me with Asperger’s, despite me already having a diagnosis of asd.

my point is, different diagnosers and different areas, will use different terms at different times.

so I wouldn’t worry. If you were classified with a level, that level will not necessarily be a static thing, it can fluctuate overtime.

The levels are specifically for the US health insurance market, to my understanding. If you're not in the US, they're not generally considered clinically relevant (particularly since it can change from day to day).

When DD was assessed they told me its "just autism" now as support needs can fluctuate. Then I was diagnosed by the equivalent adult service a year later with Aspergers.

Thanks. It’s not me but a family member that I help. I was trying to make sense of the report. I think I looked at USA sites which explains the lack of levels.

They asked the service and they came back with a level.
