Medication for ADHD-side effects

Just need somewhere to vent.

Never thought it was going to be this hard, I don't seem to be tolerating Medikinet at all. At 20mg and just feel a bit out of it and have high heart rate at times. On the verge of giving up but I've come this far so keep thinking I should carry on. Anyone in the same boat?

I used to take these. I tried 3 different medications and all of which had this side effect. I've now been off meds about 6 years and have a massive fear of feeling a heartbeat. There are pros and cons but I personally found the cons were just as bad as the pros were good. Instead of medicating I've learnt to make changes in my life that fit me as a person instead of medicating and changing myself to fit in if that makes sense. But at the same time I was so grateful for the medication at the time because it made the hardest parts of ADHD easier. Sometimes when I get overwhelmed I feel like I could do with medicating again but it's such a big and difficult decision so I know how you feel. Good luck, you'll get there.

Thank you. It's so hard isn't it, I think I'm still getting my head being diagnosed as that only happened in November. I feel like I don't really know myself anymore if that makes sense.

I take short acting methylphenidate max 10mg a dose. 10mg at 8 am, 10mg at 12pm, sometimes a sneaky 2.5mg at 4pm. This is sufficient as long as I am getting good sleep, eating well, exercising. Being short acting gives me more control over it too.

I don't get in with higher doses, I feel too anxious on higher doses.

How long have you been taking it? The "out of it" feeling does dissipate after a little bit so worth pushing past, but not everyone gets on with the same medication. I found Elvanse better for me than Medikinet personally. Some people find the opposite - you just have to try it out.

I didn't tolerate it, or the second option. Now trying Atomoxetine
