Sertraline for ADHD

Hello,

Has anyone been prescribed this? How did it go? I’m breastfeeding so have been out on it. What was the outcome? I had some severe reactions, then felt good but lots of jaw pain, now feel depressed but it’s only been two weeks.

thanks

I haven’t heard of sertraline being prescribed for ADHD before. Only for depression, anxiety, OCD and similar. I am guessing maybe other first line ADHD treatments aren’t an option at this time because you’re breastfeeding so they are trying something else, or perhaps they are targeting a related condition?

Sertraline affects people differently. I personally wasn’t able to tolerate it due to side effects but many people say that it has been hugely beneficial to them after 5 or 6 weeks and that side effects subside.

Can you talk to whoever prescribed it? Who did prescribe it?

A mental health nurse and then it was signed off by a doctor. It’s only been a couple of weeks so I get it will take time to sort itself, but I hadn’t heard of it being prescribed for ADHD either so I wanted to know if anyone else had had it before and if it made a difference to all the other related issues, or just as a mood stabiliser

I was on it for a bit before I had my diagnosis so it was for "depression and anxiety". It made me sooo much worse emotionally. Can't remember if it was sertaline or citraloptam one of them made me suicidal. I won't touch SSRI now never had a good experience with them personally

Hi all,

I’ve not been formally diagnosed - huge waiting list - but I’m 99.9% certain I have that cluster of traits and conditions that is known as ADHD.

It is a bittersweet realisation - it carries a lot of forgiveness for all my struggles over decades, but also a lot of regret over what might have been.

The question is, what to do about it? I’m 48, no period for 14 months, so fluctuating hormones are in the mix now. I’m quite sceptical about the possibility of finding the right meds, in the right dosage, and that not bringing unwelcome side effects.

I’m aware that the huge periods I spend online are part of the problem - probably caused by my ADHD, but also exacerbating it.

Any happt stories out there about a good experience of meds and / or successful self-management?

Sometimes I feel like as a parent keeping my home in order is the spiritual struggle of my life, and that’s so fkn depressing! Thanks.
