Private V NHS adult ADHD diagnosis - what happens afterwards, is a private diagnosis recognised?

Am on the longest NHS waiting list in the world thanks to the GP waylaying my forms for 6 months and our local health trust provider are doing some weird thing with trying to throttle adult assessments - currently a near 2 year wait

Im lucky to have funds to pursue a private diagnosis. I’m dithering about whether to go for it for a number of reasons. However, if I go private what happens then - do the NHS recognise the diagnosis? What happens if I want to pursue meds as an option?

Id really like to get my GP group to lay this out but they’re unhelpful and impossible to get hold of for queries like this

Can you write to the Practice Manager and enquire as to whether they do 'shared care'? Have a read around this - on-going shared responsibilities for prescribing (still with cost implications for you though).

Can you go through Right to choose?

Yes, the NHS recognise the diagnosis (assuming the assessor has the correct accreditations). Just ask your GP how you can get it added to your health records (I've just done exactly that).

My GP took on 'shared care' with my private psychiatrist (he also works with the NHS) after about 4 months. It took that long to find the right combination of meds, but now I just request a repeat prescription in the normal way.

I still have reviews with my psychiatrist that I pay for, but the frequency is reducing. I'll hopefully move to a pattern of 6 monthly check-ins with him, which is manageable financially for me. (Very aware that I am hugely lucky to be able to afford to side step the NHS waiting list!)
