Clothes rubbing my wrists, getting worse, any suggestions?

I've always been super sensitive to seams (had to wear socks inside out as a kid etc) and as I approach peri it seems to be getting worse and worse 😬

Current big issue is things rubbing my wrists. During winter I usually manage this by wearing a thermal long sleeved base layer inside out (so no seams touching me) underneath whatever I'm wearing on my top half, sometimes with the base layer cuffs folded over the top layer cuffs to stop them touching my wrists. But at the moment this isn't enough. Today, my wrists have felt literally rubbed raw by my cuffs (which were actually super soft jersey fabric!) and I'm now in bed feeling twitchy and itchy about it with my wrists burning a bit. There's nothing to see on them, it's definitely sensory not a real physical problem.

Any suggestions for things that might help ease this level of sensitivity?

Oh I have major issues with clothes a lot of the time it is painful and frustrating for sure

I often have to wear soft men’s fleeces with no cuffs and yes to the wearing things inside out I sometimes have to do this especially with socks. I live mainly in men’s clothes cos they are looser and softer on me and I live in men’s football shorts when I not at work even when it is freezing

Loose things are even more irritating to me 😬 Has to be skin tight but also never dig in... Sorry you're also struggling with similar issues, it's so frustrating and distracting isn't it!!

Have you considered loose-ish wrist supports? Just one layer of the tubigrip-type ones, with a cutout for your thumbs?

They can be kind of irritating, depending on your particular sensitivities, but I've heard from other autistic folk - like me - actually quite enjoy the slight squeeze on the wrists. I used to wear them all the way up to my elbows, but I started losing circulation in my hands...

I always have my sleeves rolled up because of something like this. Got in trouble when I was at school for doing it.

Now I just roll them up every day.

I always have three-quarter length sleeves on my tops, or else I roll long sleeves up.

Can you sew, or learn to? If so, perhaps you can trim off the ends of long sleeved tops that you have, and neatly resew the seam so it faces outwards and doesn't touch the skin on your wrists?

Unfortunately I'm also always cold 🥶 so unless it's boiling outside I have to have full sleeves! Oh to be a hot person like my DS and not need all these uncomfy annoying layers!

Can you handle anything touching your wrists, what about those rubber bracelets you know like the cancer support or charity ones? They are super smooth and would create a barrier between your wrist and clothing without doing any thing that would stand out

No! I can't wear a watch or a bracelet either. Shuddering at the very thought. A sewing friend has offered to make me some hidden seam stretchy wrist warmers to wear under things though which I'm hoping will help...
