I don't know why I decided to read and get involved. I'm so frustrated by people just not knowing that of which they speak. Maybe I'm guilty too sometimes but man it's depressing.

I relate and feel the same way about these kinda threads. They always end up making me feel about 100 times worse

ofwarren · 16/01/2023 19:25

I know how you feel. I always kick myself for getting involved too.

There is a prime example running right now.
As usual, the late diagnosed are bearing the brunt.

I think I know the thread you mean @ofwarren and yours is a name I always recognise and I cheer you on when you comment because you always make perfect sense and get your point across well. I was reading at breakfast and didn't have time to comment which is probably best considering my mood today! Ableist wankers and they say we don't understand other people!

That thread got me thinking though about how life has been more difficult for me since being very young because I'm ND and seeing what Dd is up against. She's clued in whereas I had no idea at her age. It makes me quite sad and sometimes I feel quite angry that no-one realised and my life might have been easier if they had. Teachers, psychologists, psychiatrists, parents, family, people who criticised me constantly for being different. Wankers.

Sometimes I think if reporting threads and comments but then I think sunlight is best.

@AutisticLegoLover
I totally agree with you about the difference it would have made if you knew. My DS who is on the pathway knows and it's much easier to explain to him why he feels a certain way. Yesterday for example, he had to go to the doctors and he was yawning and fidgeting so much while they were talking to him. When he came out he said his belly felt weird. I was then able to explain to him that having to mask in front of the doctor is very tiring and that his belly ache is probably because he was stressed from that.

As a child I got shouted at for what were obvious meltdowns or shutdowns, told I was rude for not wanting to socialise and sometimes used for entertainment when my mum wanted to shoelw her friends what I knew.

That's good it's been deleted. I was on that thread and one poster keep talking about persistent adults 'jumping on bandwagons'.

As if they just give out diagnosis willy nilly. 🙄
So patronising, isn't it.

harbaughskhakis · 17/01/2023 12:44

I've deleted and resigned up to here over the years so many times, because of these type of threads, the ableist threads pretty much destroy me, but I love the community of being able to "speak" to people about all sorts as I don't get that in real life. I wish mnhq took a much firmer stance on these goady af threads,rather than letting them run and run and run and eventually maybe delete.
