Stimming

Apologies if this isn't the right place for my thread, we are possibly on a journey with our eldest son. He shows signs of Autism and ADHD. Which ever it may be, he is fantastic, in mainstream school without needing much support, however he does display symptoms.

My question is, as an adult with Autism, do you still stim? Do you direct it, or aware you do it? I'm a senco, and my experience is only in the early years so I'm trying to think what support I may need to bear in mind in the future. Currently, he makes loud intermittent noises randomly and finds it hard to be "still" this includes talking (especially when he's been told not to).

Thanks in advance.

I am adult and I stim all the time. I not even aware of it a lot of the time
At gym people say they see me flapping my hands on the treadmill I not even aware I am doing it
Sometimes I am aware like when I hitting my head
But I not very clever like some people on here I cannot hide my stims

When I am verbally stimming this usually when I tired or something wrong I am aware of it but I cannot stop it
it is frustrating

@PinkBuffalo - don't put yourself down, please! 🌻

@PinkBuffalo

Sorry, the above post should read -

Do you direct it No

or aware you do it? Yes

Thank you for your replies, echo that, @PinkBuffalo don't put yourself down like that. Were told in the Early Years sector to never stop stimming, but to offer opportunities to channel it so I was curious as to how I would support my son as he got older.

I still stim and I'm aware that I do it sometimes (sometimes I don't realise until its commented on)

I always stim, but have only really been aware of it the last few years as DH points it out or passes me a fidget toy. I used to try and hide stims, but I don't do that anymore now there is more awareness.
