Counselling after later in life asd diagnosis

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had been offered counselling or a support group through the NHS after their diagnosis? I was diagnosed just over a year ago and haven't had the chance to really talk it through with anyone. I was assessed via zoom from a clinic quite far away from where I live so wasn't able to be part of any support groups offered by them. If anyone could recommend any online non Facebook groups I'd really appreciate it. I'm not sure if it's something that a gp could help with so haven't approached my doctor as yet.

My experience is that there is zero NHS support for adults with autism, whether recently diagnosed or diagnosed as children. The main point of having a diagnosis seems to be that you can apply for PIP, access reasonable adjustments at work and sue people who discriminate against your disability. There isn’t any help for actually coping with your condition.

We have a mental health charity where the GP can refer you for 3 sessions for 'support' - I found them patronising idiots unfortunately.

I don't know about the PIP claim, I don't fit any of the criteria so didn't even waste my time applying.

Oh that's a shame, thanks for both of your replies.

I've been on the waiting list for NHS counselling for 8 months; and they periodically email me telling me they will take me off the list unless I confirm I still want it. It's a pile of shite, basically. I've given up hope of ever getting it.

Can you access anything through work? I keep meaning to try the work Employee Support scheme, I think they offer up to 8 remote counselling sessions.

I was diagnosed last year and have really struggled. I have walked out of 2 jobs and got really upset. I referred myself to talking matters (I don't know if it all Britain or just my part of the world) I had my assessment and the lady I spoke to was really nice, and now I'm on the waiting list for face to face counselling.
As I expressed CBT etc is crap and just makes matters worse.
