Hi

i've been told i can claim PIP for my autism and how it affects me. i work full time. people say im clever and i could get a better job than my min wage job but i can't. autism stops me. ive been told to get PIP if im allowed to help me with costs. i drive an auto because i could never get manual, my brain didn;t allow it. so they cost more. also things that i eat and can only eat, and wear certain things to stop the distress. i also have sensory processing disorder.

im curious and worried i shouldnt get it and dont want to get into trouble.

thanks if youve any advice :)

No advice, but sympathy - late diagnosis is very hard to process, I am finding. And driving, I can't even drive an automatic Sad .

I don't know about PIP, everything I read suggests the claim process is an absolute nightmare, I quite honestly don't think I could personally cope with going through a PIP claim.

I don't think you could 'get into trouble' for applying, though. If you didn't meet their criteria, they would reject your claim which might be really upsetting and frustrating, but you wouldn't be 'in trouble'.

I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do Flowers

Trying to claim pip is a nightmare but you can try nothing to stop you trying if you difficulties affect daily life
My autism and dyspraxia affect me very badly. I got DLA until I was 17 but was refused adult benefits
i have reapplied for pip this year cos the last few years have been horrendous for me and I have ended up having to live by my own which meant I nearly died a few years ago cos I was not eating and it got really dangerous
I have a lot of issues and everyone say I should apply for pip, but it has resulted in a court hearing I have to attend (virtually) which is a nightmare for me so my friend is helping me with this
If you want to apply then good luck but be prepared for the long haul

Hello OP, it might be worth contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau and they can assist you with completing the form. It’s certainly worth trying for, you won’t get into trouble for it.
Best of luck.

Look up the descriptors for each criteria and see if you can evidence that you would score. Providing evidence is key. It's bloody hard to get PIP and the fact that you work will be used against you because they will decide because you can do X that means you don't need help with Y.
