I know it sounds bizarre but it seems its a thing!

My 19 year old diagnosed DS asked me the other day if I ever put my arm up in the air when I'm lay down in bed and I do! It feels so comfortable up there. I mainly use my none dominant hand and can do it for quite a long time.
Today I noticed that my 8yo DS who is waiting for his diagnosis does it too Grin

I've no idea why we do it, it's obviously some sort of stim.

😆 it's so weird isn't it
I just googled it one day and saw that it's common for ND people to do. I've absolutely no idea why!

Yes, often one in the air and one behind my head, I don't know why it's comforting but it is 😀

BoardLikeAMirror · 24/08/2022 18:42

Yes! Never thought anything of it but I quite often do this.

notyourmam · 25/08/2022 15:34

Yep!

HMSSophia · 26/08/2022 21:51

Yes. God it's weird realising this is yet more adhd stuff I do! ( I'm diagnosed)

Does anyone jiggle their legs at night to relax??

More of an ankle twirling thing but yes Grin

Dh does this alot, we've evenhad silly arguments over it fairly regularly as when he falls asleep it tends to thud down onto my head!
And it just makes no sense to me, so I've been wtf often asking him how can holding your arms up be relaxing🤷‍♀️🤯
I didn't realise it was an autistic thing (as I've never done it!) always interests me the differences of stims in the community.

Yes, I've done it for as long as I can remember. DH finds it hilarious.

I don't jiggle my legs at night but I do what I call "cricket feet", where I rub my feet together. Most of the time I don't notice I'm doing it until it's pointed out, as with the majority of my stims!

"Cricket feet" - I'm stealing this as I'm guilty of it too, again it is so comforting 😁
