Today I had a realisation.
I've been having these weird sensations in my arms and legs for as long as I can remember. It's like they are buzzing, like they feel they are floating almost. It's at its worst in bed and I circle my ankles like crazy to try and get rid of the sensation. In the day time I squeeze my squashy stim toy hard and push my hand firmly into my forehead and drag it down.
I've been tested for vitamin deficiencies and even had an MRI but nothing shows up.
I came across a post on Instagram that describes proprioception issues in adults as feeling like your limbs are floating so today when I got the sensation I decided to look up how to correct proprioception issues. I stretched and tensed my muscles, I lifted heavy weights and I walked on tiptoes and the feeling disappeared....
So after all this time, what my doctors believed was a medical issue is actually just autism!
I actually believe now that even my TMJ issues caused by my teeth clenching are part of this whole issue.
I don't know why I've never realised before as I've always been a massive sensory seeker where this type of thing is concerned. I always wear leggings because I need the compression, I sit on my hands and fold my legs under myself and wedge my body into the chair, I used to sleep under my mums laundry and put the sofa cushion on my knee and get people to sit on me.
I adore wearing the lead vest when people have xrays and I remember how wonderful it felt wearing an extremely tight boned corset when I was a teenager.
I'm so happy that I'll now have a remedy for this sensation because I really hate it, it's so stressful.
