Bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) more common in ND people

I've just read an article about this, with references at the bottom.
corticalchauvinism.com/2016/05/18/bruxism-teeth-grinding-and-autism/

I have had issues with clenching all my life. I remember doing it as a child and I still do it every day and now have TMJ issues quite badly.
I really don't know how to stop. I've tried a mouth guard but cannot stand the feel of it in my mouth.

Anyone else struggle with this?

I was literally just listening to a podcast about adhd and dental issues this week. My dentist told me that practising good sleep hygiene (no screens, dark room, low lights, bedtime rituals, keeping regular hours) helps because you grind less if you get good quality sleep. But I have no idea if that’s actually evidence based.

I have a mouth guard but I gnaw through them in a matter of months.

Yep every time I go to dentist (not very often I have to admit) I get told I grind my teeth but I am not aware I do it dentist thinks it must be in my sleep (I am always stressed)

Yeah, mostly do it unconsciously. Time I'm most often aware is when I'm driving, not sure why. Also couldn't get on with a mouth guard, even though it was made from a cast so should've fit well. I often wake up with the insides of my cheeks in shreds, but as an utter minger I quite enjoy the funny texture so don't mind too much.

Same, I don't know I'm doing it. Whenever I think about it I'm doing it though. I honestly think I do it all day long.
Not sure if I do it in my sleep too.

I wake myself up clenching my jaw it's horrible. It clicks audibly when I eat now it's grim

I got a (horrendously expensive 😭) mouth guard at the dentist, who claimed it would last ages. 2 months down and its already massively worn through.
I have the clicky jaw and i really think it contributes to my migraines.

I’ve started suffering from this as a side effect of my meds. I’ve started a high quality magnesium supplement (I’m using viridiam because the tablets are small). I’ve heard it takes a few weeks to build up magnesium in the system but once settled it will help with relaxing the muscles and reducing the clenching.

I never knew this!
I'm going to try it, thank you

I had Botox in my masseter muscles for this a couple of months ago and it's been quite effective
