Glastonbury - yikes!

Does anyone else get anxious even with the thought of Glastonbury? If someone was to design sensory/social hell on earth for me it would be this.

I do appreciate that there are many, many, many people who love it - and obviously we are all different, so it really is not a surprise that what some like, others don’t.

But it gives me the shivers when I see all those people, all those tents, the noise, the smell, the toilets.

I'm with you
There is literally nothing that I would enjoy about Glastonbury. I don't even like live music, mainly because they don't (cant) sing it the same as the recording. I get annoyed at the song being changed.

The crowds, the noise, the lights, the smells.. everything.
My idea of hell.

I went to Leeds Festival once, 15 years ago I think. Was 19ish and was going through of massive phase of trying to be normal/desperate to just be NT essentially and do things other teenagers did, however you want to phrase it.
I hid in my tent the entire time apart from to go to the loo and I would walk to the furthest camp section away from the music bit so it would be quieter and less busy as I can't cope in public loos. Barely ate or drank as was planning in my mind on buying some food there, but couldn't leave my tent so just ate the small number of snacks I had.
Awful, sensory hell definetly sums it up.

I could not go Glastonbury cos I would not cope, but I LOVE the look of it (I mean not all the tents and noise and toilets thing) but as I cannot even cope in a busyish supermarket I got no chance
i am however looking at an accessible festival in Kent for next year called festability it looks much more sensory friendly and designed for people with all kinds of disabilities and no camping my friend has said she will come with me

It makes me sad actually, because I think I'd love a lot of aspects of a festival like Glastonbury. I'm a huge music fan, I love hanging out with friends drinking, I love bohemian/hippie type things, but yes, it's too much of a sensory nightmare. Not being able to shower properly, manky toilets....I'd feel so gross and miserable. Not to mention the crowds and the noise.

I'd like to go to a small festival and maybe stay just the one night, so the lack of showers and sleep isn't such a massive deal.

I love Somerset, and enjoy visiting Glastonbury town out of season, but the festival would be my idea of hell.

I've been in the area local to the festival when it's on and the traffic is horrendous which was enough to increase anxiety.

I can't imagine how people enjoy it. The sensory overload would be horrific. I don't even like watching it on TV because all I can think of is how awful it would be to actually be there!

I have just looked this up and it looks great! I'd definitely take my kids to this.
They have an adult ball pool!!!

It does look great! I cannot go “normal” places so to have something lie, this is really good!

I did actually go in the early 90s (pre-diagnosis and when I was in my powering through sensory overload phase - absolutely horrible btw, I basically tortured myself for about a decade).
It was crazybeautifuldirtyhotloudbrightfuzzysharp.

Glad I did it so I never have to do anything like that ever again

I did the same in the 90s, went to nightclubs and all sorts. I used to drink LOTS to dull my senses.

yes me too. I still drink to get through some social situations but nearly at the levels of my 20s/30s.

And agree with comment about even watching Glastonbury being stressful. I did watch Billy Eilish as she is amazing and does.her own thing - she doesn’t seem to conform to the “norms”. But everything else I’ve seen is popstars trying to look cool and individual in a very cliched predictable and conforming way.

@TragicRabbit and @ofwarren
I did too. Also the drinking.

crazybeautifuldirtyhotloudbrightfuzzysharp Perfectly described.

I went to a music festival once, when I was 16 (I'm 43 now), and can best sum it up as 'did it once, didn't like it, didn't do it again'. 😄
